I didn't plan this as a quiz when I wrote down the quotations, but it occurred to me with great depression that it may be difficult to tell what topic was being discussed when one of the people I have discussed in this blog wrote the following:

"Now there are no answers, only improvisations."

And this:

"The collapse of ideologies depresses but also clarifies. Finally we understand the complexity in which we live, and that enables us to cope."

Sometimes accused of being "New Agey right-wing," he has also been described as the firmest centrist it is possible to imagine. I was surprised by both descriptions.

In the preceding post, I originally wrote (and have since revised substantially) a particularly poorly phrased attempt to refer to David Frost's brief appearance as host of the U.S. version of That Was the Week That Was, but the joke cited plainly comes from a 1969 or 1970 David Frost Show, U.S. version.

It remains the only time I can recall Ludwig Wittgenstein being cited by a prime-time talk show host.
