More often, the dominant paradigms are wrong, but these folks are sick puppies anyway.
Hence the enormous confusion in sorting out the worth of their cultural and would-be investigatory contributions. The neurosis, nonsense, and occasional valid insights come as a single package, and few people are inclined to unwrap it, much less evaluate the contents.
The ones who do evaluate the contents are usually not qualified to do so, while the scholars writing about such folk tend to be specialists in the history of packaging.
