I Like Emmanthaler, or Whatever That Variety of Cheese Really Is (Comments Welcome): Or (Comments Less Likely), Another One of Those Posts That Belabors Myth and Reality and Why We Cannot Tell the Difference Even When We Think We Do

The inspired nomenclature of the "I Like Cheese" blog post comes from a contributor to the conversation on crowleycrow wherein it is used to signify short posts that allow people to say things like "So do I!" versus ones that don't seem to invite brevity or, as in my case, fall under the rubric of the folk saying "If you can't bedazzle them with your brilliance, then baffle them with your bullshit."

[Precis of a potentially boring post (even with a few edifying jokes thrown in): I originally set out to write a gloss on why mythico-modernist mental equipment is a rarity these days, hence the absurdity of my summer-solstice thoughts. But to get there, it was necessary to explain once more why people live with the changing stories that they learn from others and tell to themselves. Academics often earn a living explaining why other people think the way they do, but they far more rarely show much insight into why they themselves think the way they do and why they act or do not act upon what they think.

Novels that give us glimpses of such characters are of great value since the persons themselves rarely enough give us insightful nonfiction versions of why their lives are structured as they are. Even academicians’ autobiographies are frequently lacking in anything resembling self-scrutiny. Next question. ]
